A single continuous customer interaction with an agent.
Session refers to a single continuous customer interaction with an agent, encompassing all exchanges between the customer and the agent from initiation to conclusion. In the context of agentic customer experience platforms, a session begins when a customer reaches out—via voice, SMS, email, or chat—and ends when the issue is resolved, the conversation is handed off to a human, or the interaction is otherwise closed. Sessions can include multiple messages, actions, and even channel switches, but are unified by their focus on resolving a specific customer need or request.
Why session matters for CX
Sessions are the fundamental unit for measuring and managing customer interactions in agentic CX platforms like Feather. They provide a clear boundary for tracking resolution rates, containment (how many issues are fully handled by the agent), and time to resolution. By structuring interactions as sessions, teams can analyze which types of requests are resolved automatically, which require escalation, and where bottlenecks occur.

- Session context must be preserved. Losing track of conversation history or customer intent within a session can lead to repeated questions, frustration, and lower resolution rates. Robust memory and context management are essential.
